Upon arriving at Venice Marco Polo airport

NOTE: NO AIRPORT TAXIS ARE PROVIDED BY THE ORGANISERS, UNLESS BY SPECIFIC INSTRUCTION.

All the hotels that have been booked through the Venice Festival of Media website are accessible by water taxi only. If you would like to book a water taxi in advance you may do so by contacting an agency such as www.veniceguideandboat.it/transferapt.htm *

If you do not book a water taxi in advance (and it is not necessary) and you would like transportation on arrival at the airport, please use the following guide:

Once you have cleared Customs and entered the Arrivals Hall there are 3 options:

  1. Book a shuttle to the water taxi departure point and a water taxi to take you to your destination.  The shuttle and water taxi together are Ђ100.
  2. As you exit the building you need to turn left and follow the signs for the water taxis (you will walk under a covered walkway for 5 minutes). Once you arrive at the pier there is an office or sometimes a supervisor actually on the dock who will organise a taxi for you. The taxi to St Marks Square, San Clemente, the Cipriani or the Venice Lido should be approximately Ђ90. A private water taxi takes approximately 35 minutes to Venice Lido.
  3. Also located at the pier is the water bus which transfers guests to St Marks Square and the Lido. For a schedule please go to www.alilaguna.it. The journey is approximately 1 hour to the Lido by water bus.

Taxis take 10 people comfortably, maybe less with luggage.

If you would like a slightly cheaper option you can take the bus to the Piazza del Roma and take a water taxi from there.

* This company is not affiliated to the Venice Festival of Media, it is merely a suggestion and bookings are at your own risk.

Checking in and out of your hotel

If you booked your accommodation through the Venice Festival organisers, and you are arriving on Sunday 15 April, you will be met at your hotel by a representative of the Venice Festival team.

All hotel accommodation booked through the Venice Festival organisers has been pre-paid*.  You will be asked to provide a credit card to cover all additional room expenses incurred during your stay.

* Unless by separate arrangement.

Delegate registration and delegate packs

·        Delegates staying at the Westin Excelsior and the Hotel des Bains, arriving on Sunday 15 April or before, will be able to register for the conference and receive their delegate pack upon arrival at their hotels on Sunday 15 April (packs will not be available earlier than this).

·        Delegates staying at the Cipriani, Baglioni, Bauer Il Palazzo and Danieli hotels and arriving on Sunday 15 April will find their delegate packs in their hotel rooms upon arrival.

·        Delegates arriving after Sunday 15 April will need to report to the Venice Festival of Media Information Desk, which you will find immediately upon entering the Palazzo del Cinema [the conference venue] to register and receive your delegate pack.

·        All press delegates will need to report to the Venice Festival of Media Information Desk, which you will find immediately upon entering the Palazzo del Cinema [the conference venue] to register and receive your press delegate pack.

Your delegate pack will include the Delegate Book, with all conference programme and speaker information, Venice Festival Water Taxi timetable and ticket wallets, Gala Dinner tickets as appropriate and your delegate badge.

Delegate badges must be worn at all times to gain access to the Media Laboratory, the conference sessions and the Welcome Reception.   Badges need not be worn at the Gala Dinner – but you will be asked to show your Gala Dinner ticket on arrival.

Getting around Venice during your stay at the Festival

Whether you are staying at the Cipriani, the Lido, San Clemente or one of the hotels on St Marks Square, if you have booked your accommodation through the Venice Festival organisers then you will benefit from complimentary water taxi transfers between official functions, sponsored by Inviseo Media.  You will find a Water Taxi & Transfer Timetable in your delegate pack with precise timings, as well as a wallet of taxi boarding passes.  If you do miss one of the official transfers, then private taxis can be ordered through your hotel.  These private taxis must be paid for by delegates and so we would recommend that you refer to your Timetable to avoid this expense.  The Timetable will also be on the event WAP site – www.venice-festival.mobi - for easy reference.

Your boarding passes must be produced at each dock of departure.

If you have NOT booked your hotel through the Festival organisers, then please do not attempt to board one of these taxis as they have been ordered to specific numbers.

Transfers for the Cipriani

The Venice Festival Water Taxis will run between the Cipriani and the Lido for all guests at the start and close of the Media Laboratory preview, all full day conference sessions and for the Gala Dinner.  In addition, our private taxi will make several crossings of the lagoon a day to ferry speakers and VIPs at pre-arranged times.  Finally, the Cipriani Hotel provides a complimentary water taxi service between Guidecca Island and St Marks' Square for all hotel guests.

Transfers for the Lido Hotels: The Westin Excelsior and the Hotel des Bains

The Hotel des Bains is a 10 minute walk from the Palazzo del Cinema, the venue for the Media Laboratory Preview and for all conference sessions.  Similarly, guests at the Hotel des Bains are a short 3 minute drive from the Westin Excelsior Hotel, host to the Gala Dinner – Venice Festival buses will be available to transport delegates in black tie finery to and from this event.

There are private Water Taxi docks at both the Palazzo del Cinema and the Westin Excelsior Hotel and guests of both the Westin Excelsior and the Hotel des Bains will be provided with water taxi transfers to the Welcome Reception at the Cipriani Hotel on Guidecca Island  on the evening of Sunday 15th April.  At the end of the Reception, Water Taxis will be available to transfer delegates back to the Lido or over to St Marks' Square.

Booking private water taxis

If you are travelling back from the St Marks' Square independently on Sunday and Monday evening, you will need to take a private water taxi.  These can be booked through your hotel or there is a Water Taxi “Rank" in front of Harry's Bar at St Marks.

The average cost between St Marks' Square and the Lido is 70 Euro (this will increase the later you travel!) so we advise you to travel in groups to share the costs!  Each taxi can seat up to 12 passengers, at the driver's discretion.

The Delegate List

Shortly before the event, the full list of delegate names and companies will be available to view on the Venice Festival WAP site – www.venice-festival.mobi.  Please find it on the Would Like To Meet page of the site, sponsored by AOL.  If you have trouble accessing the site, please visit the New Visions exhibition stand in the Media Laboratory and they will assist!

If you would like to meet up with a delegate at the Festival, then this mobile site is a great way to get in touch.  Click on the delegate's name and you will be able to send them a text message inviting them to meet you.  We'd recommend the Would Like to Meet Lounge on the first floor of the Media Laboratory as a great venue for meeting up a little apart from the throng.
